What to watch: A Few Feet Away

A longing for connection in Buenos Aires.

What to watch: A Few Feet Away

Written and directed by Tadeo Pestaña Caro, A Few Feet Away gives us the story of Santiago.

Santiago (Max Suen) is a 20-year-old who has recently moved to Buenos Aires. He's longing for connection but struggles to navigate the transactional nature of hook-up apps and he doesn't have much experience in real-world dating.

“Seeing A Few Feet Away reach North American audiences after its world premiere in London is both thrilling and humbling...” said Pestaña Caro. “As a 29-year-old filmmaker from Argentina, I hold onto the belief that cinema is still a universal language—one that connects us through shared struggles and self-discovery, especially as queer voices are increasingly under threat.”

A Few Feet away effectively portrays how our online interactions can reinforce our loneliness and sense of isolation.

Santiago is projecting an image of who he wants the world to see him as, but in reality he's nervous, inexperienced, and struggles with interpersonal skills.

Pestaña Caro leans into reality over fantasy - there's no happy ending for Santiago, we leave him alone, lonely, and still trying to figure himself out - but the film highlights how hook-up apps can inhibit our ability to authentically connect with the world around us.
