House of Memories
Helping queer people navigate dementia.

House of Memories is a project from National Museums Liverpool - it's an awareness programme to support carers of people living with dementia.
One of the tools created by the project is an app that enables people living with dementia and their carers to explore pictures of objects together and find things that resonate with them, encouraging connections and conversations.
With the charity Switchboard, House of Memories has created an LGBTQ focused theme within the app. The content features includes stories of protest, queer families, and memories of key moments of LGBTQ equality - collected by people who have lived these memories themselves. Filmed snippets of people sharing their memories is part of the content, with an intention to generate conversation and help making connections through lived experiences.
For our podcast, How To Date Men, we caught up with Lizzie Ward, the Programme Manager for House of Memories.
We talk lived experience, life beyond a diagnosis, and the challenge of curating queer history.
