Fringe Spotlight: Don’t Tell Dad About Diana
Hannah Power and Conor Murray promise a gut punch of nostalgia paired with a roundhouse kick of camp.
Set in Dublin, 1997 — Don’t Tell Dad About Diana is created by real-life best friends Hannah Power and Conor Murray.
The story follows two best friends secretly preparing to compete for the crown of ‘Alternative Miss Ireland’ with their Princess Diana drag act – all under the nose of their hardline nationalist families ahead of the Good Friday Agreement. In the year that saw Ireland’s first gay kiss on Fair City, Eurovision on home turf, and Boyzone dominating the charts, this is a story about formative friendship, identity, and grief at the crossroads of adolescence, reflecting on the profound and personal experience of mourning a cultural icon.
"A gut punch of nostalgia paired with a roundhouse kick of camp..." said Hannah Power and Conor Murray, describing the show. "At its heart, this is a story about a formative friendship on the cusp of great change. It’s about the choice between leaving home in search of something new or staying behind to try and build something better. A dilemma that has defined our friendship. At its core, this is the love story of two best friends trying to grow up without growing apart."
